Arts Studio — Remote Enrichment

Program (K–12)

Harmon School’s Visual Arts Studio is a remote, extracurricular art program designed for K–12 students who want to explore creativity, technique, and self-expression through hands-on artmaking. This program blends live, instructor-led online classes with offline studio work, allowing students to develop artistic skills while working with real materials in their own space.

A Broad, Exploratory Approach to Art

Students are introduced to a wide range of artistic disciplines and mediums, including:

  • Drawing and sketching

  • Painting and mixed media

  • Sculpture and three-dimensional work

  • Digital art and design

  • Experimental and project-based artmaking

Projects are developmentally appropriate and adaptable across grade levels, encouraging students to explore materials, techniques, and personal style while building foundational skills.

Live Instruction, Independent Creation

Classes meet live online, where instructors demonstrate techniques, introduce concepts, and guide students through creative processes. Outside of class, students complete offline art projects at their own pace, allowing time for experimentation, revision, and reflection.

This structure mirrors real studio practice—students learn concepts together, then create independently—supporting creativity, focus, and artistic confidence.

Materials & Creative Responsibility

Students are responsible for sourcing their own art materials based on project guidelines provided in advance. Material lists are designed to be flexible and accessible, encouraging families to use commonly available supplies or adapt projects based on what they already have on hand. This approach empowers students to take ownership of their creative process and problem-solve creatively with available resources.

Creativity, Process, and Expression

The Visual Arts Studio emphasizes process over perfection. Students are encouraged to experiment, take creative risks, and develop their own artistic voice. Group discussions and optional sharing opportunities allow students to reflect on their work, learn from peers, and build confidence in presenting ideas.
