Q & A

Q: What makes Harmon School’s approach effective?
A: Harmon School combines research-backed instruction, including Neuhaus’s Basic Language Skills (BLS) and Reading Readiness curriculums, with a learning model intentionally designed for students with dyslexia and ADHD. Our small classes (no more than 6 students) allow for highly personalized instruction, individualized learning goals, and real-time support. Paired with a strong focus on executive functioning, this approach builds skills, confidence, and long-term academic success.

Q: What makes Harmon School’s approach different from other online or remote schools?

A: Every child’s learning needs are different, and finding the right school is a personal decision. Harmon School was built intentionally around teaching principles and research that support students with dyslexia and ADHD. While our model works well for many learners, we are distinctive in that we specialize in students who benefit from structured instruction, small learning environments, and explicit skill development. Our focus is on meeting students where they are and providing the support they need to thrive.

Q: Can you work with students with behavioral challenges?
A: Absolutely! We have extensive experience working with students of all behavior types, including those with ADHD, autism, and other challenges. We tailor our approach to meet each student’s unique needs, creating a safe and productive learning environment.

Q: Does Remote/Online Work?

A: Absolutely. At Harmon School, live instruction is paired with physical, consumable materials, allowing students to complete meaningful work and projects offline. This approach reduces screen time and cognitive load while preserving instructional quality, making effective learning possible from anywhere.

When designed intentionally, programs like Basic Language Skills (BLS) and Reading Readiness work extremely well in remote settings. These programs rely on direct teacher interaction and structured practice—not passive screen time.

Q: Is tutoring available?
A: Yes, we offer flexible and engaging online tutoring sessions. Whether you’re local or far away, we can provide the same high-quality support in a virtual setting.

Q: What if my child will need 1-on-1 academic support?
A: No problem! We offer flexible and engaging remote academic support and executive functioning support. Whether you’re local or far away, we can provide the same high-quality support in a virtual setting.

Q: Do you provide support outside of tutoring sessions?
A: Yes, we’re here to guide and support your family beyond tutoring. From offering strategies for executive functioning to consulting on educational needs, we’re committed to helping your child succeed in and out of the classroom.

Q: What subjects or grades, and skills do you cover?
A: Harmon School is a K–12 program serving students from beginning reading through advanced coursework and dual college credit. We specialize in supporting learners with dyslexia and ADHD, with instruction in reading, writing, math at all levels, and executive functioning skills. Our classrooms and tutoring are tailored to each student—whether they need foundational support, grade-level instruction, or advanced academic challenges.

Q: What does a regular school day look like?

A: A typical day at Harmon School includes a balance of live, teacher-led instruction and offline, independent work. Students participate in small-group classes with individualized instruction, with approximately 2.5 hours of live instruction per day. Schedules typically include three 50-minute classes, though this may vary based on projects or learning needs.

Students may also receive one-on-one tutoring or academic support as needed. Teachers hold daily office hours to answer questions, provide additional support, and connect with families. To learn more, visit our Remote School page for a detailed overview.

Q: What does it cost?

A: Costs can vary based on a student’s overall needs. Basic enrollment is $1,850 per month for our 10-month school year. Some students may benefit from additional individualized support or tutoring, which can affect the total cost. We’re happy to discuss options and provide clear, personalized pricing during an initial conversation.

Q: What if I have more questions and a unique situation?
